CRANFORD, NJ — The historic Riverside Inn was named New Jersey's top hole-in-the-wall bar for 2025 in new nationwide rankings.

Mashed, the internet news publication that covers the worlds of grocery and dining, used Google reviews, Reddit threads, and local blogs to find each state's top "unpretentious hideaway with a timeless vibe."

Also known as "the dive," the Riverside Inn can trace its roots all the way back to the Prohibition era. Recognized for its unique decor and relaxed atmosphere, the bar specializes in classic American food.

Mashed highlighted the restaurant's burgers, wings, and seafood as features that helped it gain its top spot. The review also applauded their cocktails and beers at "affordable prices."

"These bars are usually about more than just drinks, they're about authenticity, stories and connection," added Mashed, "the hidden places where locals gather, memories are made, and every jukebox or paint-splattered wall has something to say."

The feeling of nostalgia at Riverside was highlighted by at least one reviewer on Google who said, "The place has evolved over the years, but it's still 'da dive," to be honest, I think it's the best it's ever been.

"The food is great," added Tom Manfs. "The atmosphere is old school Cranford."
