Partial Collapse Of Cranford Home Under Investigation (UPDATE): Police

The residential unit was vacant at the time of the collapse and no injuries were reported, police said Wednesday morning.

CRANFORD, NJ — Update (11:48 a.m.): Fire Chief Matthew Lublin said the home was undergoing substantial construction work and a foundation wall was compromised resulting in a partial collapse. He said the Township has ordered the home demolished as a public safety matter, and a construction crew is on site to demolish the home this afternoon.

A residential unit under construction partially collapsed in Cranford Wednesday morning, according to police.

A resident told police at about 10:40 a.m. about the collapse. Police said the residential unit located mid-block on Hollywood Avenue was unoccupied and vacant at the time.

An immediate emergency response included police, fire, the building department and utility services, which included PSE&G, Elizabethtown Gas and NJ American Water.

Police said there were no reported injuries, and the Cranford Fire Department and Cranford Building Department are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collapse.
