CRANFORD, NJ — A fire broke out along the Conrail train tracks in front of Hillside Avenue School on Thursday.

Service is now running on a normal schedule after all train traffic in the area was temporarily stopped for around 20 minutes while crews worked to put the flames out.

The Cranford Fire Department says they responded to a report of smoke near the train tracks at around 3:45 p.m. Thursday. There, they found a small fire involving the railroad ties, an occasional result of trains driving by and creating sparks.
