A Primaries Primer for East Brunswick

In East Brunswick, the mayor and a councilwoman are each running unopposed for nominations to higher office.

East Brunswick has few contested elections in today's primaries.

Mayor David Stahl is running unopposed on the Republican ticket for the nomination for state senator in the 18th District, as is Democratic incumbent Sen. Peter Barnes.

Four General Assembly nomination slots are open, with East Brunswick Township Councilwoman Nancy Pinkin running with fellow Democrat Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. Republican candidates Robert A. Bengivenga Jr. and Lisa Goldhamer are on the other side of the ballot.

The only contested primary election will occur for the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders on the Democratic side. Voters will select three candidates from nine contenders for the November general election.

Representing the Middlesex County Democratic Organization is Blanquita Valenti, Kenneth Armwood, and Charles Kenny. Representing the Independent Democrat party are Ryan Spahr and Jaclyn Russomanno. Representing the Democrats United for Perth Amboy are Robert J. McCoy, Miguel A. Morales, and Frank Salado.

On the GOP side, Roger W. Daley, Robert Jones and Jordan B. Rickards are running unopposed for the three open freeholder seats in November.

In the race for Middlesex County sheriff, Mildred Scott is running unopposed for the Democrats, while Jose A. Martinez is unchallenged for the GOP bid.

At the state level, Gov. Chris Christie will face former Atlantic County Freeholder and Atlantic City Councilman Seth Grossman for the GOP nomination. On the Democratic side, state Sen. Barbara Buono will be challenged by East Orange Mayoral Aide Troy Webster.
