7 Killed, 8 Injured In Multiple Crashes: NJ Weekend

NEW JERSEY – A police officer was shot dead in Newark while on duty and a man was charged with murder in the death of his wife. Additionally, seven people were killed in four separate car crashes across the state.

Newark Cop Shot Dead
A 14-year-old was charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a Newark cop.

Joseph Azcona, 25, was part of a Newark police intelligence team that had gone to capture a suspect in an illegal weapons investigation when the officer was fired on in his vehicle, authorities said.
Police took five people into custody, including the 14-year-old.

Unlicensed Teen Driver Charged In Crash That Killed 2
An unlicensed teenage driver has been charged with aggravated manslaughter, death by auto and other counts after a Route 37 crash that killed two people and critically injured two others Friday night in Toms River, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.
The crash happened at 10:58 p.m. when a white BMW hit a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Route 37 and Route 166.

Murphy Seeks Federal Funds To Fix Sinkhole
Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency in Morris County on Saturday, in order to access federal funding needed to repair damages caused by ongoing sinkhole issues on Interstate 80.
Murphy visited the section of Interstate 80 East in Wharton, which closed on Feb. 10 due to a sinkhole. During the visit, Murphy said he had requested emergency relief federal funding to repair damages to the highway and other affected areas, according to a news release.

2 Killed In I-195 Car Crash
Two people were killed in a car crash on Sunday morning on I-194 East in Upper freehold Township, New Jersey State Police said.
According to preliminary investigation, an Acura car was traveling east on I-195 with Denzel George, a 20-year-old from Ewing, and Janae Boisseau, a 20-year-old female from Trenton.
Near milepost 10, the car ran off the road to the right and hit two trees. As a result of the crash, George and Boisseau were ejected from the vehicle and died of their injuries, NJSP said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Man Charged With Murder In Wife’s Death
A South Toms River man is accused of killing his wife after she was found with blood on her face and a belt around her neck on Saturday in their home, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.
Gustavo Juarez-Perez, 38, is being held in the Ocean County Jail on charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the death of his wife, Cheyanne Juarez, 30, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

22-Year-Old Killed In Crash
A 22-year-old Ocean County man was killed Sunday morning when his vehicle left the GSP and struck several trees, according to a news report.
John DeLuca of Manahawkin in Stafford township died around 11:30 a.m. in the crash and his was the only vehicle involved, according to NJ.com.
The crash remains under investigation.
2 Killed, 8 Injured In Multi-Vehicle Crash
Two people were killed and eight injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Glassboro on Sunday.
The crash occurred on Rt. 555 northbound at mile 47.8, just before Exit 48, Ellis Street, the Gloucester County Office of Emergency Management said on Facebook.
Brendan Cary and Dominic Reyes — both 19-year-old Franklinville residents — died in the three-vehicle crash, police said. A woman and four kids were injured.
