East Brunswick Man Stabs Mom, Charged With Attempted Murder: PD

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A 40-year-old East Brunswick man was charged with attempted murder and other offenses after he stabbed his mother, police said.

On Wednesday, around 2:08 p.m., Sayreville Police Department told East Brunswick Police that a township woman was stabbed and fled to Sayerville.

The woman was stabbed multiple times while at a residence on Buttonwood Drive in East Brunswick, police said.
The woman then fled to safety at a home on Winding Woods Drive in Sayreville before being taken to a local area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Several East Brunswick Police officers responded to the residence on Buttonwood Drive in an attempt to locate the suspect, identified as Heng Shao, 40 of East Brunswick.
According to initial investigation, the stabbing was not a random act of violence, and Shao was the son of the woman who was stabbed. Police said Shao fled the scene in a silver Honda Accord.
A follow-up investigation led officers to Menlo Park Mall in Edison, where Shao was located and detained by Edison Police Officers before being taken into custody by East Brunswick Police Officers.
Shao was processed and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapons for unlawful purposes.
Shao was taken to Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
"I would like to thank our Officers and Dispatchers for their swift actions, which resulted in an immediate arrest," East Brunswick Police Chief Frank LoSacco said.
"Their hard work serves as evidence of their commitment to keeping the community safe. I also want to thank the Sayreville and Edison Police Departments for their assistance, which is a testament to our working relationship with our law enforcement partners.”
The incident remains under investigation, which may result in additional charges, police said.
