New Year's Day Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized In North Jersey

The shooting was reported just after 7 a.m. on Jan. 1.

PATERSON, NJ — One man is dead, and another is fighting for his life after New Year's Day shooting.

Paterson Police were sent to Market Street and Memorial Drive at 7:10 a.m. Thursday to investigate a report of shots fired.

Officers found two men with gunshot wounds, and they were taken to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Patrick Murray.

The first victim, a 36-year-old man from Paterson, was pronounced dead. The second victim, a 55-year-old man from Paterson, is in stable condition.

This investigation is active and ongoing.
