EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The East Brunswick Police Department celebrated new beginnings while acknowledging transitions as they welcomed two new officers to their force in a ceremony that drew nearly 90 colleagues, family members, and friends.
Officers Michael Miszkiewicz and Shane Briody were officially sworn in last week during a ceremony that highlighted the township's commitment to public safety and community investment.
Pastor Bruce Smith opened the ceremony with a prayer for both the community and police force, setting a reverent tone for the proceedings. Mayor Brad Cohen then administered the oath of office to the new officers.

Mayor Cohen emphasized East Brunswick's dedication to maintaining public safety through strategic investments in personnel and resources.
"Our crime rates are very low because we put money and invest in the right people to make sure that it is a safe community," Cohen told attendees. He stressed that effective law enforcement begins with recruiting qualified individuals and providing comprehensive training.

Cohen outlined the township's multi-faceted approach to public safety: "We invest in our people, we invest in our technology, and we invest in educating the rest of the public to help them do a better job at protecting the rest of us."
Police Chief Frank LoSacco congratulated the new officers and explained that residents wouldn't see them on patrol immediately, as they would be undergoing extensive training first.
LoSacco praised the dedication of the department's officers and emphasized the command staff's responsibility to properly prepare new recruits. "It's our job as a command staff to make sure that you're equipped and educated," he told Miszkiewicz and Briody.
In a heartfelt moment, the chief made a solemn promise to the officers' families: "We're going to keep an eye on them, and we're going to make sure they come home to your family every night. That's what we're here for."
The ceremony concluded with a benediction from Pastor Smith.
Miszkiewicz and Briody have now entered the department’s rigorous Field Training Program. Both officers will be assigned to the Patrol Section upon completion of field training.
