East Brunswick’s Route 18 Roadwork Could Take Years To Complete

The project is anticipated to be completed by early 2028, according to NJDOT.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The Route 18 Rehabilitation project in East Brunswick will take years to complete, officials said.

A team from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) recently made a presentation to Council on the project.

The project is anticipated to be completed by early 2028, said J.P. Ravetier of HNTB Corp., who designed the project for NJDOT. “Although substantial completion of the project will be likely sometime in the fall of 2027,” Ravetier said. The construction officially began in January 2024.

Since the contract was awarded, more work was added including more than a mile of center median concrete barrier, Ravetier said.

Around 8,000 feet of additional gas main relocation was added recently, including work on the extension of the state’s fiber optic system.

NJDOT engineer Jignesh Patel told Council that work is being one day and night on both sides of Route 18. Two lanes will be maintained in the northbound and southbound during the day and detours on the corridor will be overnight.

Patel thanked the East Brunswick Police Department for being on site and helping motorists in traffic.
