Help Kayleigh Peterson

Help raise money for the Children's Organ Association and help Kayleigh Peterson.

Kayleigh was born Aug. 23, 2007. At her 18-month check-up in February 2009, the doctor felt her liver was swollen and immediately sent her to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. After a week of tests and an invasive biopsy, she was sent to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania where the doctors determined that she has a rare genetic disorder called Tyrosinemia Type I.  Tyrosinemia is a genetic disorder characterized by elevated blood levels of the amino acid tyrosine, a building block of most proteins. Tyrosinemia is caused by the shortage (deficiency) of one of the enzymes required for the multistep process that breaks down tyrosine. If untreated, tyrosine and its byproducts build up in tissues and organs, which leads to serious medical problems.  It affects 1 in 100,000 babies born.
