
EAST BRUNSWICK –The Diocese of Metuchen will sponsor a live musical performance by Catholic recordingartist Tony Melendez on April 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Bartholomew Parish, 460 Ryders Lane. A Nicaraguan American guitar player, composer, singer and songwriter, Melendez was bornwithout arms. His mother took Thalidomide while pregnant, which caused his disability and he learned toplay the guitar with his feet. He has gained national recognition for his musical talent and devotion to hisfaith. During his visit to the U.S. in 1987, Pope John Paul II was visibly moved by Melendez’s performance.All are invited to attend. Proceeds will benefit the parish youth ministry’s pilgrimage to WorldYouth Day in Madrid this summer.
