Founding Member of EBPD, Robert Sicknick, Dies

Visitation for Robert "Bob" Sicknick will be today, with a funeral service to be held tomorrow at Rezem Funeral Home.

Robert "Bob" Sicknick, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 4, at his residence.

Born in South River, he resided in East Brunswick for many years before moving to Barnegat two years ago. In 1952, at the age of 19, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy doing his first 4 year duty on the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Intrepid working on the flight deck as a Plane Director, "Yellow Shirt." Bob stayed in the active reserves stationed at Lakehurst Naval Base in an Anti-Submarine Squadron U.S. 751, as a Plane Captain. Upon finishing that 4 year tour, he received his second honorable discharge.

In 1960, East Brunswick Township was looking to start up a full time police department. Bob became one of the first 19 officers, wearing badge No. 12. In October, 1962, Bob was called back into the Navy, flying to Cuba with his squadron out of Lakehurst during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His squadron found four Russian submarines in the water near Cuba. He received his final honorable discharge and returned home to his police work.

Bob loved the Navy, his country and being a police officer, but most of all, he loved his children, Robert, William, George and Daniel his grandchildren, Brittany, Kyle, Jordan, Zachary, Jillian, George, Devon, Cameron, Danny and Jake; and his step-children, Jim, Joe and Carol and their children, Samantha, Olivia and Griffin.

Bob will be missed by all of us. Funeral Services will be conducted today, Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 8 a.m. at the , 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, followed by a 9 a.m. a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church In South River. Burial will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown.

Visitation will be today, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bob's name to USS Intrepid Fallen Heros Fund, 1 Intrepid Square, W46th St. and 13th Ave, N.Y., N.Y., 10036.
