Visitors Asked Not To Touch Anything On Contaminated Beach

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is asking visitors not to touch or ingest anything on a contaminated Jersey Shore Beach.

The NJDEP has posted warning signs around Raritan Bayshore Beach due to high levels of arsenic found in the water, according to media reports.

Meanwhile, clean up on the beach is going on to remove slag-like materials. The plan also included testing for heavy metals including lead, and an investigation into the origin of the materials, Congressman Frank Pallone had said.

On Sunday a DEP spokesperson confirmed to NJ.com that the samples were found to have “elevated concentrations of arsenic.”

The source of the material remains unknown, reported News12.
