Middlesex College Offering Free Patient Care Technician Certification
Tuition, fees, textbooks, uniforms, equipment, and certification exams are covered for qualified students under a grant.
MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – Middlesex College is offering a free certification program to train patient care technicians. The course runs from March 12 through May 12.
Students enrolled in the program will learn to provide care and perform EKG and phlebotomy, skills required of those caring for hospitalized patients.
Funded by a grant from the New Jersey Community College Consortium under the New Jersey Pathways to Career Opportunities initiative, the program will cover tuition, fees, textbooks, uniforms, equipment, and certification exams for qualified students.

There are no prerequisites for the pProgram. Students must be at least 18 years of age to enroll.
Students stand to gain marketable skills in the areas of phlebotomy, EKG, and general nursing skills that are in demand by healthcare providers in the hospital setting. Successful completion of the program will prepare students to test for certifications by the National Healthcareer Association as a Certified EKG Technician, Certified Phlebotomy Technician, and Certified Patient Care Technician (PCT).
“The Patient Care Technician program at Middlesex College will provide a tuition-free opportunity for students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to address the growing demands in the healthcare industry,” Natasha James-Waldon, executive director of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning at Middlesex College, said in a statement.

“Through this program, a student can receive three national certifications in phlebotomy, EKG, and PCT, which positions them well for the job market. The program will focus on helping students learn in-patient nursing care and how to develop relationships with their patients.”
