The Week Ahead in East Brunswick

Club will be holding tryouts on Sept. 10 and 11, from 6:30-9 p.m. (dates/times subject to change) to form boys teams for the 2013-2014 indoor season. They are specifically looking at teams in the 14- and 16-year-old age divisions, but they welcome all age groups to the tryouts, and the exact teams created will depend on the players who try out. Vegetarian Quick Start with Sue Rose, East Brunswick Public Library, 2 Jean Walling Civic Center, East Brunswick, 7 p.m.

Sue will focus on how to make quick and easy vegetarian meals using different cooking methods, and provide information on what to shop for along with menus and recipes. In addition, she will discuss basic nutrition and how this vegetarian diet can enhance physical and spiritual well-being.

Backpack Safety Workshop, East Brunswick Public Library, 2 Jean Walling Civic Center, East Brunswick, 7 p.m.

The average child wears a 12-pound backpack and lifts it 10 times a day, with a cumulative stress of carrying nearly 11 tons of weight per school year. Backpack-related injuries are responsible for more than 7000 emergency room visits per year. Ken Freedman, a certified Backpack Safety America instructor, will share backpack safety strategies. Attendees are invited to bring their fully-loaded backpacks and have a personalized backpack evaluation and fitting at no charge.
