Tornado Touches Down, Teen Hit By Car: NJ Weekend

Several crashes took place this weekend in New Jersey, including a hit-and-run.

NEW JERSEY — A tornado hit a town and several crashes and injuries were reported in New Jersey over the weekend. Here are the reports:

Tornado Hits Lawrence Township

A confirmed EF-0 landspout tornado touched down in Lawrence Township, Mercer County on Friday evening, the National Weather Service confirmed.

In a report released Saturday, the NWS said the confirmed twister formed around 6 p.m. in Lawrence Township. Forecasters said it began near Johnson Road and Brunswick Avenue intersection, where it uprooted and damaged multiple trees.

Damage was sustained to trees along Johnson Road behind the Conoco
Gas Station. Additionally, the Circle Branch Post Office sustained damage to the roof and several vehicles in the parking lot were overturned by the tornado. Fortis Institute also sustained significant damage to the roof and solar panels.

Forecasters said the tornado then moved northeast into a small wooded area before hitting a post office parking lot and causing a half-dozen vehicles to flip. The landspout dissipated shortly after, forecasters said.

The NWS report said the twister packed 80 mph winds and left a path that was 0.13 miles long.

Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash

A Staten Island man was killed on Saturday after he was ejected from his motorcycle following a crash into the back of two vehicles on Interstate 287 in Far Hills, said New Jersey State Police(NJSP) Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.

Based on a preliminary investigation, a Kawasaki motorcycle, an Infiniti passenger vehicle and Hyundai passenger vehicle were driving northbound on I-287.

The crash remains under investigation.

Teen Sustains Serious Injuries In Crash

A 14-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after he was hit by a car on Route 38 in Burlington County, according to media reports.

Around 6:37 p.m. on Friday, NJ Troopers responded to State Highway 38 west milepost 19.1 in Southampton Township on a report of a motor vehicle crash, reported NBC Philadephia.

The boy sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. According to initial investigation, the crash happened when the boy was trying to cross the highway, NJ.com reported.

The crash remains under investigation.

Man In Critical Condition After Hit-&-Run

A man was critically injured Sunday in a hit-and-run in Lakewood Township, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Lakewood Township Police Chief Gregory Meyer said.

On Sunday, around 12:30 a.m., Officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department were summoned to the area of Route 9 and First Street for a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

Responding Officers found that a white four-door sedan was traveling northbound on Route 9 when it struck a man who was attempting to cross Route 9 in a marked crosswalk.

The white sedan continued northbound on Route 9 and left the scene.

As a result of the crash, the victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The man is presently listed in critical condition.
