Woman Charged with DWI Following Accident

Woman told police that she had taken several medications before driving

Sarah Harris, 69, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following an Aug. 5 accident on Tices Lane near Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Police said they originally saw damage to a utility pole and debris in the road, but no vehicle. A short time later, Patrolman John Hoernlein saw a black four-door Hyundai with significant damage to the passenger’s side front end parked on Crosspointe Drive.

A female driver, later identified as Harris, was standing outside the vehicle. She told police that a second vehicle had hit hers before driving away, police said. After she was told about the damage to the nearby utility pole she changed her story and told the officer that she may have driven off the roadway and struck the pole, but didn’t remember, police said.

Harris told Ptl. Hoernlein that she had taken medications including pain medications before driving. After conducting field sobriety tests and a drug recognition experts (DRE) examination she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, along with numerous motor vehicle summonses.
