Human Bone Turned Over to Police 5 Decades Later

East Hanover man found human remains in 1967 while walking on the shores of Lake Michigan.

An East Hanover man recently turned over to authorities a human bone he had found in Illinois more than five decades ago.

According to a copy of the police report, the man attended a bell system training in November 1967 and stayed at the Hotel Moraine for a month during the training in Highland Park, Ill.

While walking along the shores of Lake Michigan on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 1967, the man found a remnant of a bone, which he suspected to be human, sticking up out of the sand, according to the report.

The man wanted to turn in the bone he kept for all these years, according to the report.

The bone fragment was turned over to the Medical Examiner's Office for testing to determine if it is indeed human, according to the report.
