Presidential Scholar Candidate, Hoops Milestone, Future Biz Leaders at WP
A round-up of recent achievements by Whippany Park High School students.

Recent achievements at Whippany Park High School include a Presidential Scholars Program candidate, musicians making All State Band, a 1,000th career basketball point, and strong showings in chemistry, literary and business contests.
- Whippany Park senior Caroline Park has been selected by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the United State Department of Education as a candidate for the prestigious United States Presidential Scholars Program.
- Whippany Park senior Benjamin Lawrence has been selected as a finalist in the 2013 National Achievement Scholarship Program.
- Whippany Park seniors Matthew Krause, Stacey Pan, Albert Park and Caroline Park have advanced to Finalist Standing the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. All Finalists will be considred for National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2013.
- Whippany Park senior AJ Holleran, son of WP World Language teacher Sue Holleran, scored his 1,000th career point Feb. 6, becoming the fourth player in WP Boys' Basketball history to achieve the milestone.
- The following Whippany Park 2013 FBLA Regional Competitive Event Winners qualified to compete against students from around the state:
- Accounting I: Eva Wu - 1st place and Liam McLaughlin - 4th place
- Business Calculations: Justine Panicker - 10th place
- Business Communications: Edward Jin - 4th place
- Business Law: Joe Florio - 5th place
- Business Math: Matthew Jeng - 6th place
- Business Procedures: Nick Kim - 8th place and Megan Chang - 10th place
- Networking Concepts: Jason Jiang - 2nd place
- Word Processing II: Albert Park - 3rd place
- A team of students placed third in the nation in this year's second WordWright Challenge, a national competition for high school students requiring close reading and analysis of many different kinds of prose and poetry. More than 58,000 students on 582 school teams participated in the challenge. Junior Nicolas Kim earned a perfect score, one of only 15 11th-graders in the country to do so. Near-perfect scores were earned by seniors Richard Li, Michael Mastellone and Matthew Ulichny. The students were supervised by Mrs. Judith Meskill.
- Mr. Wilson's Business Education students hosted the Hanover Township Senior Citizens on Jan. 10. The students taught the seniors about computers and also provided them with a delicious breakfast.
- Ashley Humienny, Taylor Humienny and Deanna Noble had their artwork chosen for exhibition at this year's "ArtStart" show at William Paterson University. The work was on display in their Power Art Gallery from Jan. 18 until Feb. 2. Noble's drawing received an honorable mention award.
- Two Whippany Park students were selected as All State Band members: Mike Tai, on alto sax, and Ben Lawrence, on bassoon.
- Whippany Park chemistry students competed in the New Jersey Science League for the first time. The Chemistry II team of Lisa Hu, Jason Jiang, David Mayans and Divya Thuremella placed second of eight teams in Region 12 and is ranked 18th out of 112 teams in the state. David Mayans had the 3rd highest individual score in the region, and is ranked 26th out of 402 students in the state.
