Rainy Day for District Referendum

Voters weighing in on $17.5 million question that could lead to upgraded fields and outdoor athletic facilities at two high schools.

It's a rainy day for the Hanover Park Regional High School District's special election, when voters decide whether the district may borrow $17.5 million for improvements to outdoor fields and athletic facilities at Hanover Park and Whippany Park high schools.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.

At Central School in East Hanover, one of the seven polling locations in East Hanover, Florham Park and Hanover, poll workers said 92 people had voted by around 11 a.m.

Jennifer Junda was among the voters who headed to the music room to cast their "yes" or "no" votes.

Junda, who has children involved in athletics, said she hopes to see the measure pass. Her husband, Joe Junda, has been active in advocating for the project, and he voted before going to work Tuesday, she said.

Updating school facilities will help keep East Hanover a desirable place to live and make the fields safer, she said.
