Borough Council Votes Down Dorm Inspection Ordinance

The ordinance would have required that Peddie conduct an annual inspection of each dorm room for a fee.

The ordinance seeking to charge The Peddie School for housing inspections has officially gone kaput. The Hightstown Borough Council voted against adopting the ordinance that would have authorized annual inspections of the schools dormitories, according to the Windsor-Hights Herald.Β

The ordinance would have required non-profit educational institutions to have the annual inspections, which Peddie had been exempt from. The fee for each housing unit costs $60, equating to $9,000 more a year for the Borough from Peddie if the ordinance passed.Β

Council President Larry Quattrone said that hiring someone to conduct the inspections would cost between $15,000 and $17,000, according to the Windsor-Hights Herald.Β
