Quick-Acting Mercer County Cops Save Family Dog From Pool Drowning

Police said Zissou was in distress and likely would have drowned had the officers not reached on time.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ – Police in Robbinsville saved a dog from drowning in a backyard pool over the weekend.

On Saturday, Robbinsville Police Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a dog actively drowning in a backyard pool at a residence on Sienna Court. Patrolmen Slininger, Pica, and Meehan immediately responded to the scene.

On arrival, Slininger and Pica successfully retrieved the dog, named Zissou, from the pool without incident.

Zissou was clearly in distress and likely would have drowned had the officers not acted when they did, police said.

While securing the scene, officers also found a second dog in the backyard. They searched the area and were ultimately able to locate the owners, who had been searching for their pets after they had gotten loose earlier in the day, police said.

Later that evening, the owner came to the station to personally thank the officers and express sincere gratitude for their actions in saving Zissou.
