Sale of Frontier Airlines Should Not Adversely Impact Mercer County

Indigo Partners is the likely purchaser of the airline, according to reports.

Frontier Airlines’ parent company has agreed to sell the airline as soon as September, but Mercer County officials believe it will remain a benefit to the county,Β nj.com reports.Β 

Earlier this year, the airline signed a lease to remain at the Trenton-Mercer Airport through 2018.

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes told nj.com the possible sale of the airline is a sign it is doing well. He said Frontier told him they were happy with the future prospects for the airline at Trenton-Mercer Airport.

Republic Airways Holding announced the possible sale of the airline to an unknown bidder last week, according to the report.

Multiple outlets, includingΒ The Denver PostΒ andΒ Bizjournal.com,have reportedΒ Indigo PartnersΒ is interested in the purchase of the airlines, andΒ The Wall Street Journal reported on WednesdayΒ that group was in β€œexclusive talks” to purchase the airline, citing a source familiar with the situation.

Indigo is also in the process of selling Spirit Airlines.

Republic Airways acquired Frontier in 2009, when Frontier went into bankruptcy, according to nj.com.
