Alert Metuchen Resident Prompts Arrest Of Three In Car Burglaries

A borough resident spotted the burglaries and called police, resulting in a police foot chase that led to the arrests.

METUCHEN, NJ — A resident helped thwart car burglaries in town in a recent incident. And police thanked the community for its help.

After a borough resident witnessed three people burglarizing multiple vehicles in the downtown area, police arrived at the scene and all three individuals fled on foot, police said.

Police then chased the suspects and arrested them in three locations, police said. The three were taken into custody without incident.

According to police, on Friday, Feb. 2, at around midday a resident witnessed three males wearing masks actively burglarizing vehicles near Main Street.

The resident notified the Police Department and units quickly found three individuals matching the description on New Street.

When officers made contact, all three individuals fled on foot.

One was immediately apprehended and found to have a knife in his possession. The next was apprehended near Middlesex Avenue and found to have an imitation firearm on his person. The last was taken into custody at the Metuchen Train Station.

No one was injured and all three individuals were charged accordingly, police said.

"We would like to thank the public for helping us make Metuchen safer for everyone," police said on social media.
