Edison Extends Homeless Shelter Lease Agreement With Catholic Charities

EDISON, NJ – The Township on Monday adopted an ordinance extending the homeless facilities lease agreement with Catholic Charities, under the Diocese of Metuchen.

The lease for the Ozanam Family Shelter has been extended for six more years – from June 18, 2029, until June 17, 2035.

The facility is located at the Camp Kilmer site. Middlesex County and Catholic Charities operated a homeless shelter on the property for a number of years.

As a condition of the donation, the Township was required to enter into a Homeless Facilities Agreement to continue the operation of the Ozanam Family Shelter at the Camp Kilmer site.

The initial agreement was entered into between the Township and Catholic Charities on June 18, 2004.

According to the ordinance, the Mayor and Council determined that it would “serve a public purpose” to extend the agreement with Catholic Charities.
