Edison Introduces $25M Bond For Public Works, Police Range, & Transit Upgrades
The funding will support roadway resurfacing, animal shelter expansion, Edison Light Transit equipment, and park improvements across town.

EDISON, NJ – The township recently introduced a $25 million bond ordinance for improvements to public works, engineering, recreation, roadway resurfacing, drainage improvements, seniors’ facilities upgrades, animal shelter expansion, expanding Edison Light Transit, parks upgrades, and more.
The total worth of the bond ordinance is $25,008,500, “including the aggregate sum of $1,250,425 as the several down payments for the improvements or purposes required by the Local Bond Law.”
“These are essential and vital services that support a safe, healthy, and active community,” Mayor Samip Joshi said.

Here’s what funds are being allocated for:
- Information Technology - $385,000 for acquisition and installation of Wi-Fi infrastructure and desktop and personal computers and the migration of the Township's phone service to a cloud-based system
- Police Department - $1,466,250 for Renovation of the indoor police firing range, including, but not limited to, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, lighting, heat detector, ceiling baffles, wall surfaces and miscellaneous related structures and equipment, including all related costs and expenditures.
- Fire - $1,365,000 for acquisition of a heavy-duty rescue vehicle, including all related costs and expenditures incidental thereto.
- Health - $55,000 , which includes acquisition of office equipment, $420,000 for furniture , etc.; $300,000 for the renovation and expansion of the Animal Shelter; $550,000 for furnishings for the Shelton Community Center; $1,522,500 for acquisition of equipment and technology for the Edison Light Transit.
- Public works - $402,500 for building and grounds improvements and repairs etc.; $231,000 for the acquisition of various equipment for Buildings and Grounds; $862,500 for various park improvements and beautification; $577,500 for acquisition of equipment for various parks; $1,155,000 for acquisition of equipment for roads; $315,000 for acquisition of equipment; $267,750 for acquisition of vehicle maintenance equipment.
- Engineering - $9,600,000 for roadway resurfacing, including milling and resurfacing of various roads throughout the Township; $570,000 for field mapping and the creation of a general information system for the Township's stormwater system; $600,000 for various drainage improvements; $360,000 for improvements to the Central Avenue Bike Path; $2,100,000 for various public facility building improvements; $1,650,000 for archiving services; $54,000 for repairs to Kilmer Road and Truman Avenue intersection.
- Recreation - $110,250 for the acquisition of various equipment and vehicles
- Finance - $52,500 for the acquisition of various office equipment and $36,750 for the acquisition of a vehicle for the Assessor's office.
This bond ordinance shall take effect 20 days after the first publication and after final adoption.
