“These types of community events, in terms of just general litter maintenance and cleanups, provide profound benefit to our community, and I think it's important for us to expand these opportunities to others,” Poyner said.

“I know that there was concern about the insurance liability, but I think that in the grand scheme, what we want is more community involvement.”

Council president Margot Harris said she loved the ordinance and called it “terrific.”

“It's all about beautifying our town, getting rid of clutter, getting rid of things that are unsightly, and making this town even more appealing,” Harris said.

"So, I thank you council vice president, for having put this forward, and I look forward to being someone to volunteer for it.”

Mayor Sam Joshi too showed his support for the ordinance that aims to expand community involvement in cleanups and maintenance by allowing various organizations and individuals to adopt and maintain areas.

“Council Vice President John Poyner’s advocacy for the Adopt An Area Program will benefit the preservation of our neighborhoods as well as increase corporate partnerships for our community,” Joshi said in a statement.

The ordinance was adopted unanimously.
