Entering 2025 With Focus On Local Governance: Metuchen Mayor

Busch noted that the borough's shared commitment to local progress stands as a testament to what can be achieved when neighbors are unified.

METUCHEN, NJ – During the Borough’s 125th reorganization meeting, Mayor Jonathan M Busch said Metuchen's focus in 2025 was preserving and promoting its heritage and concentrating on the future.

At the meeting, Busch wielded the gavel that was used by Metuchen’s first mayor back in 1900. The gavel was borrowed from the Metuchen Edison Historical Society for the ceremony.

“This moment, connects us directly to the residents who came before us and reminds us of all the incredible progress that we've made together as we move through this milestone year, will reflect on our shared journey, honor the legacy of our past and continue working toward an even brighter future,” Busch said.

“We enter 2025 with a renewed focus on the importance of local governance, recognizing that our collective efforts here in the touch and ripple outward, shaping the quality of life for everyone in our community.”

The Mayor noted that the borough’s shared commitment to local progress stands as a powerful testament to what can be achieved when neighbors are unified in a purpose.

"The touch and sense of community reminds us that what we do right here, right at home matters most. This year. Let's continue to show respect and care for one another,” Busch said. “We hold the power to create a safe, valued and empowered community regardless of what occurs anywhere else.”

Busch highlighted the various infrastructure projects underway in the borough and the various grants received, exemplifying the power of regional collaboration.

In 2025, Metuchen will be celebrating its 125th birthday and this will be tied into America’s 250th birthday, also known as the Semiquincentennial.

“Over the next two years, we will honor the touch legacy through curated events, educational programs and community gatherings, all designed to celebrate our shared history and explore what makes Metuchen a quintessential American community, this celebration will connect our town's rich past with the broader story of our nation's Journey, fostering pride and unity as we commemorate these significant anniversaries,” Busch said.

“Metuchen is America will bring together residents of all ages to celebrate our deep roots, our enduring patriotism and the bright future we're building together.”

Busch highlighted the various accolades and recognition that Metuchen received in 2024. He praised the local government and the downtown alliance for creating a welcoming environment in the borough.

“It's the work we do right here at home that shapes our daily lives and strengthens the fabric of our community. Localism isn't just a concept. It's a commitment to ensuring that the needs of our neighbors, families and businesses are met through collaboration, compassion and hard work,” Busch said.

The commitment to localism is what makes Metuchen more than just a place to live, the Mayor said.

“As we look ahead, let us continue to draw strength from one another, knowing that our shared efforts in the past and today are building the foundation for an even brighter tomorrow,” Busch said. “Thank you for the tremendous honor of serving as your mayor.”
