Junior Police Academy, Advanced Program For Children In Edison
Edison Police has announced 2 summer programs for residents this year - the Junior Police Academy & Advanced Junior Police Academy.
EDISON, NJ — If you're looking for interesting summer programs for your children, consider this. The Edison Police Department has announced two summer programs for residents this year.
The first is a newly-launched Advanced Junior Police Academy, an extension of the township’s popular Junior Police Academy. The advanced program is for high school sophomores and juniors who have an interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
The Advanced Junior Police Academy is scheduled for Monday, July 25, 2022 until Friday, July 29, 2022 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Woodrow Wilson Middle School located at 50 Woodrow Wilson Drive, Edison.

Officers from Edison Police Department have been visiting local schools, to gauge the interest among students. A large number of students have expressed an interest in these classes, Edison Police said.
Academy class sizes are limited. Students are selected by a way of an essay with a minimum of 100 words to a maximum of 200 words describing why they should be selected to the program. The program fee is $125. The check or money order should be made out to the Edison Municipal Alliance and can be mailed or dropped off to: 100 Municipal Boulevard, Edison, NJ 08817.

The second program is the return of the Junior Police Academy that was started 23 years. The program is hugely popular in the community and will be held in two one-week sessions for local middle school students.
The first session runs from August 1-5 and the second, from August 8-12. Each daily session runs from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson Middle School, 50 Woodrow Wilson Drive, Edison. Edison’s Junior Police Academy is open to all township students entering the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade this September. The registration deadline is Monday, July 18.
“As families plan their summer vacations and weekend recreation schedules, we hope they remember to schedule our Junior Police Academy into their plans,” said Deputy Chief Robert J. Dudash, Jr. “Our Junior Police Academies provide youngsters with plenty of fun and valuable information that may inspire them and help keep them safe.”
Activities include DWI and anti-drug education, personal safety instruction, sports activities, and a variety of demonstrations that may include police K-9s, emergency response, fire safety and suppression along with motor vehicle stops.
