Beans & Bread will be officially closing on Friday. They did not share the reason for shutting down the business.

METUCHEN, NJ—A popular pastry and coffee shop in Metuchen will close on Friday. Beans & Bread, located at 660 Middlesex Avenue, will close after nearly two years in business.

The proprietors announced the closing in a Facebook post.

“It is with a heavy heart that my wife and I share some difficult news: after almost two amazing years of serving this wonderful community, we have decided to close our doors at Beans & Bread. Our last day will be Friday, November 15,” proprietor Erik Diamond and his wife Rebecca said in the post.

“When we opened our little café, our hope was to create a place where Metuchen could gather for the best coffee, pastries, and treats, as well as a space where everyone could feel welcomed, valued, and at home. And thanks to each of you, we've accomplished so much more. We've become a hub for friendship, creativity, and community-hosting events like our beloved "Stitch & Bitch" and serving as a safe haven for groups like Metuchen Pride. Watching these connections blossom and seeing your smiling faces day after day has truly been a privilege.”

During the height of the pandemic, the couple moved to Metuchen from Brooklyn.

Having worked in the food and hospitality industry, Diamond wanted to bring quality American baked products to Metuchen. Along with his business partner Clinton Straub, Diamond came up with the vision for Beans & Bread.

The couple thanked their staff for pouring their hearts into the cafe. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your dedication, passion, and outstanding customer service. We are forever grateful,” the couple said.

Before the final closing, the couple has invited the community to join in and celebrate Beans & Bread by “sharing one last coffee, one last pastry, and one last story.”

The couple did not share their reason for closing the business.
