Englewood Company Recalls Popcorn Over Listeria Risk

Englewood-based Dale and Thomas Popcorn is recalling about 700,000 bags of popcorn because of possible listeria contamination, according to the company and a published report.

The company ordered a voluntary recall of 14 flavors of its "Popcorn, Indiana" snacks, NBCNews.com reported Tuesday. Listeria was found on mechanical equipment, a spokesman said in the report.

“The recalled products were distributed to various retailers, vendors, distribution centers, and consumers through the Internet on or after August 8th, 2012 with Best By dates of February 4th, 2013 through March 12th, 2013,” the company said in a news release.

Products impacted by the recall can be returned for a refund or replacement, the release said.

Listeria symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the FDA said. The listeria bacteria can cause serious and fatal infections in the elderly, people with compromised immune systems, children and pregnant women.
