Car Collides With NJ Transit Train, Leaves Without License Plate: Photos
A car collided with a NJ Transit train in Bergen County on Thursday, then drove away, but left something important behind.
FAIR LAWN, NJ — A NJ Transit train slammed into a car on the tracks in Fair Lawn during rush hour Thursday evening, and the driver was able to leave — but without the license plate.
NJ Transit said that around 5:30 p.m., a train that wasn't carrying passengers was being moved along the Bergen County Line. It struck a vehicle on the tracks at the Fair Lawn Avenue crossing.
No injuries were reported to the crew on board, the agency said. The vehicle drove off.

The agency declined to divulge further details, except to say that trains were on or close to schedule by 8:30 p.m., and NJ Transit police were leading the investigation.
But a photographer posted photos of the car parts and license plate that were left behind, and said police were able to locate the driver in Central Jersey.

The Fair Lawn police wrote on Thursday night, "The vehicle fled down Pollitt Drive without its trunk (the whole trunk) and rear bumper. If anyone saw anything please contact the desk at 201-796-1400. They also have the license plate so they will be paying them a visit. Yes this is the second incident and it has nothing to do with the crossing and everything to do with the driver."
Video Emerges

Observers said that this video posted to Instagram shows the same car on the Garden State Parkway, sliding through Thursday's nor'easter. Among the commenters, the Fair Lawn police posted, "Hey, that’s our car that got hit by a train."
Patch will update this story if more details are released.
