Colleagues, Friends Reflect on Mary Ann Collura [VIDEO]

One in a series of videos about fallen Fair Lawn Police Officer Mary Ann Collura, from some of the officers and borough volunteers who knew her best.

Over the past few weeks in anticipation of the 10th anniversary of Officer Mary Ann Collura's murder, I spoke to a number of the officers, borough employees and volunteers who knew her best.

Each was kind enough to share their thoughts and memories of Mary Ann on camera, and as time permits, I will be editing our conversations down into videos.

For the first video, I asked each participant to talk a little bit about Mary Ann as a person and as a police officer. Even though I spoke to each person privately, there were certain things about her that every one of them repeated.

Mayor John Cosgrove, who often worked hand-in-hand with Mary Ann in his capacity as a volunteer fireman, may have summed up what I heard about Mary Ann best during her memorial service last week:

"When I think back about Mary Ann," he said. "I often remember her as a dedicated police officer, a good friend. She was tough, but she was fair. A giving person, and someone with a rough exterior, but a huge heart inside."
