Drug Takeback Scheduled for Saturday

Individuals may dispose of expired or unused medications at the police department on Saturday, April 27.

Residents wishing to get rid of expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications that have been accumulating in their medicine cabinet, can do so safely on Saturday.

The Fair Lawn Police Department, located at 8-01 Fair Lawn Avenue, will function as a drug disposal spot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The department is working in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency to hold the drug takeback, which is free and anonymous.

In its five previous takeback events, DEA and its partners have collected more than 2 million pounds of pills. 

Medications can be disposed of either in their original container or just dumped directly into the disposal box.

If the original container is submitted, the individual is asked to remove the prescription label if it contains any personal identifying information so that people disposing medicine may remain anonymous.

While liquid products may be dropped off as long as they remain sealed in their original container, syringes and other sharp instruments will not be accepted.
