SADDLE BROOK, NJ – A West Windsor police car dash cam captured footage of an Amtrak Train colliding with a vehicle driven onto the tracks by an intoxicated 23-year-old Saddle Brook woman late Tuesday night.
The driver, Amna Ahmed, faces charges following the incident, which occurred just before midnight, according to Police Lt. Mark Lee.

Officers were called to the tracks under the bridge at Princeton-Highstown Road just north of the Princeton Junction Train Station after receiving a report of a disabled vehicle, Lee said.
There, officers found the car, a 2012 Toyota Camry, facing east on the westbound tracks and Ahmed, standing next to the vehicle, Lee said. Her father and sister, who arrived to help Ahmed, were parked on a nearby access road in a white BMW, the lieutenant said.

Police dispatchers started making notifications to stop train traffic due to the situation, however an Amtrak train traveling from New York to Pennsylvania was approaching at a high rate of speed, Lee said.
Officers and Ahmed took cover behind a behind along the tracks while Ahmed’s family remained in their car, Lee said. Another officer sought cover behind the bridge’s abutment, the lieutenant said.
The train struck the Toyota, sending heavy debris flying to the area where police had just been standing, he said. Two patrol cars, along with several train cars, also sustained damage. The BMW was moderately damaged “after being pelted by a shower of debris,” Lee said.
Although the debris field was extensive and sent with such incredible force, no one was struck and there were no reported injuries due to the quick actions of our officers,” Lee said.
Amtrak traffic was suspended for about three hours following the incident, but as of Wednesday morning Lee said the tracks are fully operational.
Ahmed was arrested and charged with DWI, along with reckless driving. She was released pending an upcoming appearance in West Windsor Municipal Court.
