Fair Lawn PD: Phone Violation Leads To Multi-Town Pursuit

A 53-year-old Plainfield man faces charges after police say he led officers on a pursuit Thursday morning from Fair Lawn into Paterson.

FAIR LAWN, NJ – A 53-year-old Plainfield man faces charges after police say he led officers on a pursuit Thursday morning from Fair Lawn into Paterson.

Shortly after 10 a.m., Fair Lawn Police Officer Tiller Uriarte pulled over a van on Broadway at 29th Street after he saw the driver using his cell phone and disregarding a red light, according to Sgt. Brian Metzler.

After Uriarte spoke with the driver, Anthony Jenkins, and was returning to his patrol car, the van sped off on Broadway through Elmwood Park and into Paterson, Metzler said.

Paterson police located the van in the area of Sparrow Street and found Jenkins walking nearby, in the area of North 11th Street and Clinton Street, the sergeant said.

Jenkins was arrested and taken to Fair Lawn Police Department, where he was charged with eluding, obstruction of justice, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple motor vehicle violations, Metzler said.
