Fair Lawn Sisters Graduate From U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Catherine and Elizabeth Livi spent a year training on ocean-fairing vessels as part of their education.
FAIR LAWN, NJ — Two borough sisters were graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy recently.
Catherine and Elizabeth Livi earned Bachelor of Science degrees, commissions in the U.S. armed forces, and a merchant marine officer license. The licenses mean they may serve on seafaring vessels, something they both did while enrolled at the academy.
The majority of midshipmen will serve as Navy reservists while working aboard U.S. flag vessels. Others will serve on active duty in the armed forces.
