10 Firefighters Treated After Crash On Bergen County Highway Spills Chemicals
A two-vehicle crash on Route 208 Thursday caused a car to overturn and exposed firefighters to a chemical spill, officials said.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Ten firefighters were treated at area hospitals Thursday night after a rollover crash on a Bergen County highway resulted in a chemical spill.
The Fair Lawn police responded around 8:48 p.m. to the two-car collision on Route 208, in which a vehicle overturned, said Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Deputy Chief of Detectives Jeff Angermeyer on Friday.

Several occupants of both vehicles "sustained varying degrees of injuries," he said. They were taken to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

The Hawthorne Fire Department clarified in a social media post that Hawthorne and Glen Rock firefighters were exposed.
They wrote, "Members from Glen Rock and Hawthorne began experiencing symptoms of exposure to the chemicals and were taken to local hospitals for evaluation. All members were treated and released from the hospital overnight."
Angermeyer said the injuries to the passengers were also determined to be non-life threatening.
Due to the seriousness of the crash, the Bergen County Fatal Collision Unit is investigating.
