Garfield, NY Knicks Player Bring Ice Rink To Town
Kids in Garfield got to enjoy three days of free ice skating, thanks to the efforts of the city and Taj Gibson.

GARFIELD, NJ - More than a thousand kids got the chance to go ice skating for free in Garfield thanks to the efforts of Garfield police, city officials and a non-profit run by an NBA basketball player.
Between Feb. 28 and March 1, "Garfield On Ice," a pop-up synthetic rink was set up at Century Field and featured free skate rentals, music and food trucks, according to Police Sgt. Jeff Stewart.
The festivities were sponsored by the Garfield Police Community Affairs Division, the City Council, Garfield Recreation Department and the Taj Gibson Foundation.

Gibson, of the New York Knick, also swung by the event to meet youngsters. His Nutley-based non-profit focuses on youth development programs. One of its biggest efforts so far was a refurbishment of the basketball courts he grew up playing on in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
