Man Charged After Pot 'Gummy Bear' Made Fair Lawn Girl Sick: Cops
A girl threw up several times after she got a marijuana 'gummy bear' from a classmate; other kids were given 'gummy bears' too, police said.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — A borough man was charged in connection with a marijuana "gummy bear" that a borough teenager ate and got violently ill from, police said.
Jeffrey Klein, 48, was charged with possession of hashish under 5 grams, said Sgt. Brian Metzler. He was arrested following statements witnesses gave police during an investigation into how a 14-year-old got sick, Metzler said.
Police responded to a call Friday afternoon about a 14-year-old girl who needed medical care. The girl threw up several times and was "not feeling like herself," Metzler said.

The girl said she was given a "gummy bear" by a 13-year-old Fair Lawn classmate that would, "stop her from stressing out," Metzler said. The "gummy bear" was a marijuana edible, he said.
The sick girl was taken to Valley Hospital for treatment where she was tested and officials determined what was inside the bear, Metzler said.

Detective Brian Rypkema investigated and determined that marijuana edibles were also given to other students at school during school hours, Metzler said.
The 13-year-old girl will be charged a juvenile complaint in Family Court.
