Man Had $47K In Cash, Drugs, Malnourished Dogs: Cops

FAIR LAWN, NJ - A 34-year-old Fair Lawn man faces charges after police say they found six ounces of heroin, 16 grams of cocaine and more than $47,000 in cash hidden around his home and car.

When police executed a search warrant at Marquan Carter's Morlot Avenue home on Wednesday, they also found eleven dogs, some of which appeared to be malnourished, inside cages, along with two treadmills with harnesses for the canines, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Officers also found three children, between the ages of 12 and 13, at the home and turned them over to the custody of a relative, Metzler said.

Carter was arrested following a month-long investigation and charged with distribution of heroin, distribution of cocaine, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) within 1,000 feet of a school zone, 2 counts of possession of controlled dangerous substance, endangering the welfare of a juvenile & possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was remanded to Bergen County Jail, Metzler said.

The animals were removed from the home by Bergen County Animal Control and an investigation into animal cruelty is still being conducted, the sergeant said.
