Fair Lawn Man Struck, Killed by Train
A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a train near Hazelhurst Avenue Thursday morning.The man, 59-year-old Fair Lawn resident Stephen Van Kirk, apparently positioned himself in front of the train on the tracks between the Radburn Station and the border with Glen Rock at about 7 a.m., according to NJ Transit spokesperson Courtney Carroll.

A proposed deal to give Fair Lawn the historic Vanderbeck House in exchange for nearby land on Century Road is looking less likely due to state regulations of "green" land, according to the developer with plans for the property.Bob Milanese of the Wyckoff-based Barrister Builders has been in talks with borough officials to trade 2.1 acres of land from the Vanderbeck Property — including the 18th century house — and donate money toward the restoration of the neighboring Naugle House in exchange for 1.7 acres of land so he could build an assisted living facility on Century Road. Fair Lawn would come out of the deal owning both historic houses.

Empty Lot Considered For New Passive Pocket Park
An empty lot on the corner of Heights and Loretta Avenues is could become Fair Lawn's newest park.A building on the small piece of property, which was home over the years to Fire Company 2, the Rescue Squad and the PBA, was demolished a few years ago. It has been vacant ever since.
The borough attempted to sell the lot twice, unsuccessfully, so officials polled residents on how they'd like to see the property used.
