Meeting For Controversial Self Storage Plan Tuesday

The Saddle Brook Zoning Board will hold a special meeting to hear testimony about a plan for a self storage facility on Midland Avenue next to the Quick Chek.

A special hearing for an application to build a 121,275-square-foot Lackland Self Storage facility on Midland Avenue in Saddle Brook is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the town hall.

The plan calls for the construction of a 40-foot-tall building with 967 storage units and a smaller office building for truck rentals. The developer will need variances for the height and use — it's in a residential zone — as well as permission to join and re-subdivide two lots in order to proceed with the plan.

Residents of nearby Arcadia Road in Fair Lawn have been turning out to meetings about the plan in large numbers, though repeated delays have caused there to be only one actual hearing so far.

The project, those residents said, could worsen flooding in their neighborhood. Fair Lawn has sent their zoning board attorney, Bruce Rosenberg, to represent the borough's interests in the hearings.

An attorney for the applicant previously said a proposal to extend Fair Lawn's drainage system through the site could actually reduce flooding there.
