Here's a look back at the past week in Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook.

Rabid Groundhog Caught in Fair Lawn

Animal Control officers caught a rabid groundhog in Fair Lawn Sunday after a resident reported the animal was acting strangely.

The resident had previously chased groundhogs out of her yard by splashing them with water, but this one wouldn't flee and ended up scratching the woman's foot, according to Board of Health Director Carol Wagner.  

Two Teens Arrested For Alleged Burglary From Parked Car

Two Paterson teenagers, including one minor, were arrested by Fair Lawn Police Tuesday morning for allegedly stealing sunglasses and change from a parked car.  

A Chester Street resident reported to police at about 7:14 a.m. that he had spotted two people "that were unfamiliar to him" on bikes, according to Det. Sgt. Brian Metzler. The resident circled around the block and found the two were then on his property.

Thieves Targeting Sheds, Police Warn

Saddle Brook Police cautioned residents to secure their property after a string of five reported thefts and break-ins from township backyards this week.

A thief apparently broke into unlocked sheds in four of the incidents, according to Deputy Police Chief Robert White. Three of the incidents happened on Colonial Avenue late Wednesday or early Thursday, another was one on Cambridge Avenue in the same time period and another happened on Oak Street Tuesday morning.

Fair Lawn High Grad Regina Spektor Releases New Song

The song, "You've Got Time," will be used as the theme song for a new series called "Orange is the New Black" appearing on Netflix Thursday.

Broadway Star Named President of Fair Lawn Theatre Company

he Skyline Theatre Company, which is based in the Fair Lawn Community Center's George Frey Center for Arts and Recreation, recently named Michele McConnell as the president of its board of trustees.

McConnell has been acting in The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway since 2010 and starring in the show as Carlotta since 2011. She has also been a member of the Skyline board of trustees since 2008 and has worked in every area of the company.

Board Approves Plan For 'Derelict' River Road Building

A developer is planning to revitalize a River Road building located across from ShopRite and described as "derelict."  

The plan to demolish the building and build a new 29-foot-tall car wash and 24-foot-tall, three-bay garage was approved by the Fair Lawn Planning Board during their meeting Monday night. The business will offer car washes, oil changes and auto detailing.
