SADDLE BROOK, NJ — A 23-year-old Saddle Brook woman who became a local inspiration after surviving a brain tumor has died in a South Jersey car accident, New Jersey State Police confirmed.

McKenna Winnie was driving east on Route 619 in Upper Pittsgrove Township around 11 a.m. Monday, when her car entered the intersection, and was hit by a southbound tractor-trailer, a spokesperson for the NJSP told Patch. Her church, the First Reformed Church of Saddle Brook, also confirmed her death on Tuesday.

The crash remains under investigation.

Winnie was a sophomore at the University of Delaware when a neurologist found an abnormality on the right side of her brain, according to a UDaily report. She underwent a craniotomy and partial lobectomy in late 2017, and eventually made a full recovery.

But tragedy struck this week, and has left a hole in the Saddle Brook community, especially within Winnie's church.
