Teen Crashes Car Into Plaza Road Home, Leaves Scene

A 17-year-old borough resident lost control of his vehicle early Thursday morning and smashed through the side of a house on Plaza Road, police said.

A 17-year-old Fair Lawn resident driving after hours in violation of his graduated driver's license lost control of his vehicle and crashed through the siding of a Plaza Road home early Thursday morning, police said.

Unsure what to do after smashing his red 2011 Acura TL into the side of 2-37 Plaza Road around 1:21 a.m., the inexperienced teen driver walked away from the scene, according to police.

"He kind of panicked," Sgt. James Krizek said, adding that the juvenile was not hurt in the accident.

The homeowner called police to report the car protruding from his house and officers traced it back to its registered owner, Krizek said. Police had the woman call her son on his cell phone to locate him and officers picked him up a bit north of the accident near Morlot Avenue and Plaza Road.

The juvenile will be issued summonses for careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, driving after hours in violation of his GDL and failure to produce an insurance card, Krizek said. He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to police.
