Uber Driver Had Heroin, Cocaine In Secret Compartment: Cops

An Uber driver from Passaic County was found with several hundred pounds of heroin and hundreds of pills during a Route 80 traffic stop.

SADDLE BROOK, NJ – An Uber driver from Passaic faces charges after authorities say they found several pounds of heroin, hundreds of fentanyl pills and a few ounces of cocaine during a traffic stop on Route 80 in Saddle Brook.

Gregory Alba-Mata, 38, was arrested Monday by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force after they discovered drugs inside of his Subaru Tribeca’s electronically operated aftermarket hidden compartment, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Authorities found over two pounds of black tar heroin, four pounds of powder heroin, several hundred fentanyl pills, over five ounces of cocaine, a kilo press and packaging material, Musella said.

He also had a Pennsylvania driver’s license that had his photo and personal identifying information that belonged to someone else, Musella said.

Alba-Mata was charged with maintaining a drug production facility, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine, one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute Oxycodone and one count of identity theft.

He was remanded to county jail pending a first court appearance.
