SADDLE BROOK, NJ — A 91-year-old woman was issued a summons for careless driving in the death of an 80-year-old borough man after she hit him at a bank Thursday, police said.
Dolores Voris, 91, was trying to pull into a handicapped parking space at the Spencer Savings Bank branch on market street when she lost control of her vehicle and hit Joseph Bonanno Sr., 80, and a support column in front of the bank, said Chief Robert Kugler. Bonanno was walking into the bank when he was hit, Kugler said. (See related: Car Strikes, Kills Man In Front Of Saddle Brook Bank: Reports)

Voris was issued a summons for careless driving. Police requested she take a driving test and be evaluated by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission Medical Fitness Review Unit.
"These notifications, often times, come from our police officers and courts when we become aware of conditions and/or incidents which cause us to question a person's ability to drive safely, but unfortunately as in this case, it didn't occur until after this most unfortunate and tragic event," Kugler said in a statement. "Our deepest sympathies and support are given to the Bonanno family."
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Sheriff's Department, and local first-responders, assisted police at the scene and during the investigation.
