Amazon Tractor-Trailer Fire Closes NJ Highway Overnight: State Police

A fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers on Friday closed Route 78 in North Jersey overnight, authorities said.

BETHLEHEM, NJ - A fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers on Friday closed Route 78 in Hunterdon County overnight, authorities said.

The crash, which involved a cement tanker and an Amazon tractor-trailer, was reported at around 9:50 p.m. near milepost 8.4 in Bethlehem Township, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez told Patch. As a result of the crash, both vehicles became “fully engulfed” in flames, Goez said.

Both trucks were empty at the time of the incident, Goez said.

The drivers, a 44-year-old man of Hialeah, Florida, and 41-year-old man of Sugar Land, Texas, were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Goez added.

All lanes were reopened shortly before 5 a.m. The cause and circumstances remain under investigation.
