Flemington Seeks $5,000 For Fireworks From New Grant Program

The grant program is under the county Tourism department's Explore Hunterdon initiative to support local economies.

FLEMINGTON, NJ — Flemington Borough is seeking to be one of the Hunterdon County municipalities to get grant money aimed at boosting local economies.

The Borough Council approved an application for a $5,000 Rediscover Hunterdon Communities Grant at its June 27 meeting.

The money would help the borough offset the cost of its fireworks celebration, according to the resolution.

As the Flemington/Raritan TAPinto reports, the county has given out 15 grants to municipalities in the one month the program has been up and running.

The money is part of the direct local aid allocation from the American Rescue Plan Act, and is meant to help stimulate local economies.

Community days and downtown festivals that had been paused because of the COVID-19 pandemic were eligible for grant funds.

The grant program is under the Hunterdon County Tourism department's Explore Hunterdon initiative.

Mark Saluk, the director of Hunterdon County Tourism, told TAPinto that the department is working with six other communities on their pending applications, and that he is anticipating more grants to be awarded this summer.
